About Mia’s work “Heart of a Dancer”:

This is a photo collage depicting my journey as a heart warrior. I was born with a congenital heart defect called Right Aortic Arch and Vascular Ring. My first heart surgery was at age 6 and my second at age 9. I also had vocal cord surgery at age 11 because my left vocal cord was paralyzed during my first heart surgery. My surgeries were scary and recovery was hard, but I never let it stop me from dancing! Dancing is my favorite thing in the world. Whether it's dancing in front of a big crowd or dancing in front of my parents, I LOVE IT! Dancing makes me happy and makes it easier when I have to go through hard things.
