Jennifer Carlquist

Jennifer Carlquist is a US-based cardiology physician assistant by day and artist by night. She advocates for patients who have had or are at risk for SCA (sudden cardiac arrest). Her passion is helping to bring awareness to rare but deadly cardiac diseases that affect young people. In her spare time, she teaches other medical professionals how to spot high-risk findings before they lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

She has been a featured artist in the fundraiser and exhibit “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” in 2023 where her heart art was auctioned to help pay for the medical bills of patients that could not afford them. This piece was inspired by HCM survivor Hannah Keime, who is a SCA awareness hero.

About Jennifer’s work “BraveHeart”:

I have always been passionate about preventing sudden cardiac arrest, especially in young patients. There is a lot of silent suffering that is going on in cases that are missed. This piece captures the essence of that suffering, but is also uniquely balanced with Hope.

Hannah is holding the words ‘staying alive,’ and that wasn’t an accident. She is the embodiment of a survivor. She is leading the charge from a patient perspective to raise awareness, but in the most creative ways. This piece is dedicated to her work.

About Jennifer’s work “Electric Heart”:

This is a deep journey into the depths of the heart, using bold reds and purples. The purples signify bravery; which patients who have survived sudden cardiac arrest definitely have. There are ‘tears’ that flow down the piece from the patients that we didn’t save because we missed the signs. The teal green in the middle of the heart represents ‘Hope.’ We as health care providers keep the causes of SCA on our radar so we can save more lives.
