Garland

At 28 years old, Garland is an illustrator and webcomic artist living with CHD and a pacemaker. Garland writes and illustrates comics about their life with heart disease, featuring their heart, named Brady, short for bradycardia. Garland began creating CHD comics in their sketchbook during art school as a way to express their frustrations about living with CHD. Encouraged by their friends, Garland established a page to spread awareness about CHD in a fun and light-hearted manner through fully illustrated comics. This particular piece is one of Garland’s favourites. More of Garland’s work and additional adventures of Brady can be found on Instagram at @openheartart_.

About Garland’s work “One Job”:

I like spreading awareness through humor.  This comic shows my heart, named Brady, refusing to do his only job. He’s chaotic and silly but he tries his best…sometimes.
