During her childhood, Alix was a carer for her diabetic father, who lost his sight as a result of a heart attack. In 2023, she was commissioned by Cardiff Metropolitan University to create a body of work to raise awareness about diabetic neuropathy.

When not painting, Alix loves walking barefoot on the sand, flowers, swimming in the sea, and dancing to salsa music.

About Alix’s work, “Reflections of my fading heart”:

I always like to imagine myself somewhere hot, lying on the beach, surrounded by palm trees and giant flowers. My reality is very different. I suffer from claustrophobia which impacts my ability to travel by plane and triggers stress-induced angina attacks –(now that airlines no longer allow passengers like me to be prescribed Valium). This means that travel is something I now aspire to through books, images and film. I use art to surround myself with colour which nurtures my heart. This dream-like painting was produced intuitively using my hands, mixing the beautiful colours on the canvas.

About Alix’s work, “My Heart”:

Painted using my fingertips on cold-press paper, this heart needs nourishment and help. This is a heart that may stop working at any time. A heart that wants to hope for a future.
