Abnormal Hearts

Adolfo Lopez is an artist, heart transplant recipient, and man on a mission.

While people often think of Abnormal Hearts as an artist, there is so much more to that name. Abnormal Hearts is so much bigger than Adolfo. It is a movement, it is stories, it is struggle, it is reality, and it is community.

The day Adolfo started Abnormal Hearts with his sisters, one who has had two heart transplants and one who has a congenital heart disease, he had no idea where it would lead. However, he knew two things: 1. God had his back, as He always has. 2. The world needs to know that no circumstances or sickness can define what a person will do or be.

He strives to share that every day through who he is and who he wants to continue to be. He always wants to be real because he feels that is what he has always intended. The scars, that his family carries, were in no way obtained easily. They hurt and they cost them a lot of pain. But they know God never left them and he never will. He is clear in telling people that what came after that pain is the ART, smiles, laughs, and stories you hear from them.

So when one hears ‘Abnormal Hearts’, that is the weight and fight his art carries. That is the encouragement he and his family pass along to others in their struggles and in their pain because they know you will be ok, you will overcome.

About Abnormal Hearts work, “The Breath After”:

I titled This art piece The Breath After.  The Breath After is symbolic of the first breath taken after an AED shocks you back to life. The idea came from how much life and energy comes back to you after that shock. Literally, life radiates through all of your body because the heart is pumping again. I wanted to capture the breath after through this art. As this woman is shocked, life radiates back into her, and as she takes a breath, that energy expands to everything around her, making her change the color of life around her, making her and her legacy unstoppable.
